Representatives of Japan's Special Olympics Team to join the 12th Tokyo
Saint Patrick's day Parade
Participants in the 12th Tokyo Saint Patrick's day Parade were announced
at a reception in the Irish Ambassador's Residence in Tokyo.
In his speech, the Ambassador, Padraig Murphy, said that Ireland would
host the first ever Special Olympics to be held outside of the United States
in July this year, " it is a great honour that some members of the
Japan Special Olympics squad will join the Parade this year, I hope that
they will enjoy the day and I wish them every success in the Games this
summer"
This year's Parade will take place on Sunday March 16th from 2pm. The parade
will be led by the Irish Ambassador and a number of VIP guests
Almost one thousand people participated in the parade last year and about
10,000 people lined the street to watch.
In addition to the Special Olympics team, the parade this year will be
distinguished with the participation of the following groups:
The US Army Band
The Tokyo Pipe Band
Universities Baton Association in Tokyo
Senshu University Cheerleading Club
Seishin Girl's Scouts.
Nihon University Brass Band
University Alumnae from the main Irish colleges
Green Bird (Harajuku Environmental Group)
Southern Tokyo Irish Setter Club
CCE Japan and the Eastern Japan Irish Dancers Association
Saint Patrick and other figures from Irish folklore will add colour to the day!
