2 February 2004
The World Famous Irish Network Japan St. Patrick's Day Parade comes to
Yokohama, Motomachi on Saturday 6th March 2004.
The mad month of March will shortly be upon us and with it comes the traditional
St. Patrick's Day Parades. The parades originated in Ireland but have now
become annual events in cities throughout the world and this year for the
first time a parade will also take place in Motomachi. It is particularly
appropriate that Motomachi will host such an international parade when
you consider it's own historic international origins. It could be that
this parade will be the first in the world for 2004. With the opening of
the new Minato-Mirai Line from Shibuya going directly to Motomachi, it
will be easy and convenient for people living in Tokyo to also come and
enjoy themselves at the parade.
There have been St. Patrick's Day parades in Japan since 1992 in Tokyo
and from 2002 in Kyoto. These parades have helped promote closer ties and
mutual interest between Ireland and Japan. The dominant colour on the day
is green, the symbolic colour of Ireland and the parade, and consequently
many of the parade participants and spectators are bedecked entirely in
green for the day. A fitting way to welcome in the Spring.
We would be most grateful if you could help with the promotion of the Motomachi
St. Patrick's Day Parade by mentioning this event in your media. Help us
cover Motomachi in green on Saturday 6th of March.
