A message from Ambassador Padraig Murphy.
Irish Ambassador to Japan
[ July 2004 ]
Over the last fifteen years, the Irish Network Japan has established itself as an organisation committed to strengthening the links between Ireland and Japan.
The enthusiasm and considerable organisation skills of the INJ volunteers
are especially evident in the Tokyo Saint Patrick's Day Parade, which the
INJ organises. It continues to grow in size and popularity every year.
This Tokyo parade, along with others elsewhere in Japan - Kyoto and Yokohama,
for example - and other events organised around Saint Patrick's Day on
17 March combine to make a significant contribution to cultural relations
between Ireland and Japan in March each year.
The INJ is made up exclusively of Irish and Japanese people who give freely
of their own time in order to organise the Saint Patrick's Day Parade in
Tokyo and other Japanese-Irish social events throughout the year. They
make an invaluable contribution to relations between Irish people and Japanese
people. Their sponsors, whom I wish to thank and encourage, provide essential
assistance in making all this good work possible.
I hope that the INJ can be even more effective in the coming year.
